Holiday Light Installation contract template

A short seasonal agreement sets expectations on what's being installed, who owns the lights, when takedown happens, and who's liable if something goes wrong on a ladder at someone else's house.

Scope of installation

Describe exactly what's covered (roofline, windows, trees, bushes, pathway) and the estimated linear footage the quote is based on; note that any additions discovered or requested on-site will be re-quoted before work continues.

Light ownership and supply

State whether the customer's own lights are being installed (labor-only pricing) or whether you're supplying commercial-grade lights as part of a full-service price, and who's responsible for storing the lights between seasons if you supply and later remove them.

Pricing basis and minimum charge

Disclose whether the job is priced per linear foot or as a flat job price, and state the minimum job charge upfront so a small job's true cost is clear before scheduling.

Installation and takedown timing

Set an install window (weather-dependent) and a scheduled takedown date, typically by late January — note that outdoor holiday displays left up past a reasonable date are often against local ordinance or HOA rules.

Weather and scheduling delays

Reserve the right to reschedule for unsafe ladder/roof conditions (ice, high wind, rain) without penalty, since this is one of the most weather-dependent services on the site.

Electrical and property safety disclaimer

Clarify you are not a licensed electrician, that installation relies on existing exterior outlets (ideally GFCI-protected), and that the customer should flag any known electrical issues before work begins.

Property damage liability

Clarify your liability limit for damage caused during installation or removal (roofing, gutters, siding, landscaping from ladder placement) and that pre-existing damage will be noted before work begins.

Liability and insurance

Note that you carry general liability and commercial auto insurance covering the job, which matters to a homeowner letting someone climb on their roof.

Cancellation and rescheduling policy

Require minimum notice and define a late-cancellation or no-show fee, since a compressed multi-week season leaves little room to backfill a cancelled slot.

Payment terms

Specify the quoted price, deposit (if any) to hold a seasonal install slot, balance due on completion, accepted payment methods, and how any on-site price adjustment will be confirmed before final payment.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Consider having a local attorney review your final agreement.
